In 1999 I play POKéMON for the first time. While I think back fondly over it and played the heck out of it, it was not until SILVER that I fell in love!
New world, fun and cool new POKéMON and then you wrap around back to KANTO! I played YELLOW, BLUE, SILVER and CRYSTAL the most. I've played the later games but Gen II will always be my favorite despite it's flaws and simplicity.

The POKéMON games I played never had the option for female trainer characters. But, I played CRYSTAL at some point and was overjoyed when we got KRIS. Because reasons I'd like to retroactively paint my story like girls were always allowed to become trainers and run away from home.
